Tyro: Dragon girls take state championship

Kelly Ann Baird added two more gold medals to her wall earning first place honors in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Jessica Frazell placed first in the 100 backstroke event. The 200 medley relay team made up of Frazell, Grace Baird, Kelly Ann Baird and Taylor Koonts placed first in this event. The Baird sisters along with Frazell and Katherine Fletcher took first place honors in the 400 free style relay. The 1-A/2-A State Championship girl’s roster includes Erin Allred, Grace Baird, Kelly Ann Baird, Jessica Frazell, Taylor Koonts, Katherine Fletcher, Savannah Newsome and Ashley Schofield. Not wanting to exclude the guys, West Davidson had several swimmers that were just outside of the medal chase. we congratulate the ladies and the guys for a job well done. we look forward to seeing the new banner displayed at West and are proud of each of you.

Chili cook off is Saturday

Clear those taste buds and cleanse your palette, the sixth annual Dragon Breather/ Chili Cook Off and band concert will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday night. Performing will be the West Davidson and Tyro eighth grade bands. There will be samplings of a variety of chilies, drinks and desserts. Hot dogs and Sonic milkshakes will also be available. The children can enjoy games and win prizes. Tickets are $4 for children, ages 5-11 and $6 for those 12 and older. all proceeds will go to support the West Davidson Band and Choral Association. this event is sponsored by Texas Pete.

Lenten services continue

Lenten Services continue each Wednesday evening at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church beginning with a light meal at 6 p.m. followed by the service at 6:30 p.m. this week’s message will concentrate on “The Attributes of Lent” and sacrifice. next week will focus on humility.

American Legion honors its own

At the February meeting of the Reeds American Legion Post No. 162, Stanley Wright was recognized as their 2009 Legionnaire of the Year. Wright was acknowledged for his contributions to the post, his work at the VA hospital in Salisbury, his volunteerism with projects at the West Davidson Food Pantry and Clothes Closet and the local Meals on Wheels. Commander James “Butch” Barnes presented Wright with a plaque in his honor.

Youth theatre will present ‘Seussical’

The Lexington Youth Theatre will present the musical Seussical March 12-14. March 12’s performance will begin at 7 p.m. March 13 will offer a 2 p.m. matinee and a performance at 7 p.m. There will be one performance on March 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door with a canned food donation for our local charities. Tickets may also be purchased from any cast member or on line at LexingtonYouthThe atreInc.com.

Congratulations to Doug and Shelly Jennings on the birth of Miles Anderson, born Feb. 21 weighing in 7 pounds and 11 ounces. Mrs. Jennings is the music teacher at Tyro Elementary School.
